Mike Schwartz’s father arrived in America in 1927, so finding information about the Schwartz family in New York should have been  quite straight forward – or so he thought. But with over 55,000 Schwartzes listed in New York City in the 1930 census, he needed some innovative ways to find them all. Mike will describe some of the atypical techniques he used and the strokes of pure luck he needed to
find his Schwartz relatives in both the USA and back into Central Europe.

Mike Schwartz is a retired Telecom Executive, living in both Northern NJ and Southwest Florida. He has adopted genealogy as a post-retirement hobby, applying the research skills he used in his career to uncover the history of both his and his wife’s families, both in Europe and after they immigrated to America. In so doing, he has discovered and met numerous new cousins across the USA, gathering even
more insight into the family history. Mike is a frequent speaker at the various genealogy societies he belongs to in both NJ and Florida, and speaks to other groups about his research and research techniques on request.
