Speakers Wanted

We're always looking for interesting and informative speakers on topics of genealogical interest. If you would like to be considered as a speaker at a BCGS meeting, please complete our BCGS Potential Speaker Questionnaire, and email it to programs@bucksgen.org.

Title:	*Maternal DNA*
Subject:	DNA analysis can be challenging! With maternal DNA, some think mitochondrial DNA and X DNA are the same, but they aren’t. Come learn the differences and how to use the unique inheritance patterns for each to help your research. Everyone has mtDNA (only from their mom) and X DNA (from mom and dad for females and from mom for males) but understanding who passes on which types and how is important. If you took a mitochondrial DNA test, you might be wondering what to do with your matches. Learn about haplogroups, inheritance patterns, and how a full-sequence test can help you with those unknown women in your matrilineal line. Do you know that X-chromosomes have different inheritance patterns than other DNA? Learn about the differences in X-chromosome inheritance in men and women. Learn about DNA recombination. Use fan charts to narrow down which ancestor may or may not have contributed to your X DNA. Registration for this program opens on Saturday, September 27, 2025 for both members and non-members. Members, use the link in the email you will receive on Monday, September 29, to register, or log into the website, go to Members Only and select Meeting Registration. Member registration fee is $5.00. Non-members, use this link beginning on Saturday, September 27, either to register as a non-member for $10.00, or to join BCGS and register as a member for a total fee of $25.00. This presentation will be recorded. Only members who have registered for this program as members will be able to view it for 30 days following the program date, by logging in to the website and selecting "Meeting registration" from the Members-Only menu.
Speaker:	Kelli Jo Bergheimer
	Kelli Bergheimer is a writer, teacher, editor, and international genealogical speaker. Kelli holds a Bachelor’s in Biology, a Master’s in Education: Curriculum and Instruction, and a Master’s in Business Management. Kelli is the Director of Curriculum and Assessments for Blue Kayak, a K-12 textbook company. She also works as the Director of Education for Your DNA Guide. Kelli runs a small business—Mess on the Desk, a genealogical organization company with a YouTube channel. Kelli is the facilitator for Genetics, Genealogy, and You, an online DNA Interest Group. Kelli is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and the Genealogical Speaker's Guild.
