Text of obituary:Stanley A Kalinowski Crisis worker Stanley A Kalinowski, 56, a mental-health crisis worker who touched the lives of thousands of mentally ill patients, died of lung cancer last Tuesday in his home of one year in Northfield VT. He was a long time resident of Elkins Park and Levittown. Born and raised in Pittsburgh Mr Kalinowski worked his way through Duquesne University at a steel mine and earned a bachelor’s degree in English in 1968. At college he met Joann Oettel when he was her page turner at a piano recital. They married in 1968 and had two children. Mr Kalinowski was drafted into the Army the next year and served in Thailand during the Vietnam war. After the war, Mr. Kalinowski earned a master’s degree in counseling education from Antioch University in Ohio. He then moved to Levittown and began a three decade career as a mental-health professional. During the 1970’s he worked at Haverford State Hospital, Hamburg State School and Hospital and The Philadelphia Center for Human Development. Mr. Kalinowski worked in a locked inpatient unit and as a crisis worker in the psychiatric crisis center of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital during the 1980’s. In his last position, at the West Philadelphia Corsortium, Mr Kalinowski was the director of children’s case management services in the 1990’s. After his first marriage ended in divorce in 1983, Mr Kalinowski moved to Trevose and in 1990 married Shelly Jones. They later settled in Elkins Park and lived there until 2002 when they moved to Vermont for a fresh start. One month later he was diagnosed with lung cancer. In addition to his wife, Mr Kalinowski is survived by a son Matthew, a daughter Jennifer Hicks, his mother Virginia Blaszak, one Grandaughter and a sister and brother. A Memorial Mass will be said today at 10AM at St James Catholic Church 8320 Brookside Rd, Elkins Park. Burial will be private.
