Title:

Planning a Future for Your Family's Past

You’ve spent hundreds, if not thousands, of hours compiling your family history. Ancestors' photos, stories, documents, and heirlooms are part of your family's past, and they deserve to be protected to share with future generations. How can you ensure your genealogical materials will be available for descendants and other researchers in the future? Even if you have no obvious heirs for your genealogy, you can take steps today to safeguard your work for tomorrow. Author Marian Burk Wood will share her method, the “PASS Process,” in our December 2021 meeting. She will tell us how to (1) Prepare by organizing our materials, (2) Allocate ownership of selected items, (3) Set up a genealogical “will,” and (4) Share the information with heirs and others. The PASS process helps in organizing and storing family history materials; setting priorities for keeping key items and finding new homes for other items; writing a "genealogical will" to safeguard your collection for the future; and sharing your family's history now.
