  Doreva Belfiore and Rachel Appel will walk through the steps cultural heritage institutions such as libraries, archives, museums and more, can take to start digitizing their archival and historic collections and make them discoverable online via their organizations HSLC (POWER Library/PA Photos and Documents/Scan PA) and PA Digital.  This presentation will cover the importance of rich metadata and how that facilitates discovery through digital repositories and the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).

Doreva Belfiore and Rachel Appel

 

Rachel Appel is the Digital Projects and Services Librarian at Temple University and a co-project manager for PA Digital, DPLA's Pennsylvania hub.  She works with institutions across the state to make their digitized cultural heritage collections discoverable through the DPLA.  Rachel also works on various digital projects including digital preservation and research information management.  She received her MSIS from the University of Texas at Austin and her BA from Smith College.

Doreva Belfiore is Director of Library Services at Hosting Services and Library Consulting (HSLC) in Philadelphia, where she works in support of AccessPA Inter-Library Loan, POWER Library, PA Photos and Documents, Ask Here PA chat reference, and other HSLC-hosted services.  She is a member of the Planning and Metadata Groups of PA Digital, the Pennsylvania service hub for the Digital Public Library of America.  She holds an MLIS from Drexel University and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.
